Dancing in the Streets (well...mostly in the parks....)

It's finally starting to get warm, so we're getting ready to celebrate Summer by kicking our heels up outdoors.  To get you started, here's a list of a few favorites that will be gracing Milwaukee's outdoor stages over the next few months:

June 6 (Thursday)
Extra Crispy Brass Band @ Jazz in the Park

June 13 (Thursday)
Davina and the Vagabonds @ Jazz in the Park

July 11-14
Bastille Days....no artists announced yet, but they always book a wonderful lineup.

July 18
Swing Nouveau @ Boerner Botanical Gardens in Hales Corners

July 22 (Monday)
Chris Hanson w/ Robin Pluer @ Lake Park

July 23 (Tuesday)
ECBB @ Chill on the Hill in Bay View

July 24 (Wednesday)
Cash Box Kings @ Lake Park

July 28 (Sunday afternoon)
4th Street Elevator @ Riverwest Farmers Market

August 6 (Tuesday)
King Comets @ Jackson Park on Forest Home Ave

August 21 (Wednesday)
Brew City Hops has been asked to teach a short lesson before the
Brew City Big Band @ Washington Park

Summer Sizzle is canceled for this year...Harley-Davidson's 110th and several other events will be happening in the Third Ward this August, and sources say we can look forward to the Sizzle again next summer.

There are lots of other great concerts in the parks that I'm sure I've overlooked, and lots more that aren't as swing dance-able but are awesome....for example, I'm hoping to check out Snarky Puppy at JitP, mostly because they're called "Snarky Puppy."  Also, if you haven't tried canoeing to River Rhythms from the Urban Ecology Center, you're missing out on some great fun and some great views of Milwaukee.  (Yes, shameless plug for a fabulous local non-profit, but it's oh so true!)

Jammin' Out -- Intermediate Lindy Hop Lessons in May

Maybe you want inspiring movement that makes a fun dance with your partner really pop.  Or maybe you're ready to up your game for dancing in front of "Lindy Muggles" at one of the outdoor concerts this summer or showing your stuff the middle of a jam circle.  Either way, this month's intermediate Lindy Hop series with Henry and Tory is designed to make your dancing really sizzle for summer in four easy steps.

Step One--5/6--Tap into your own creativity!  Get ready to bring out the characters in your dancing and move your body in different ways to a variety of music.  We'll also practice stealing other people's moves...and maybe even stealing other people's partners.  :)  A fun class not to be missed.

Step Two--5/13--Lines and Levels.  Polish up your dancing and make it really pop. Add pizzazz to moves you already know and try out some new lines.

Step Three--5/20--Jammin' Out.  Big glitzy movements to pull out when you've got the room to make them happen safely, plus flashy entrances and exits with a lot of swag.

Step Four--5/27--Fancy Footwork.  Tie the whole month together with a variety of variations and all the missing pieces.

Where--Summerfield United Methodist--728 E Juneau Ave
When--Mondays in May, 7-9 pm
Instructors--Tory Bahe and Henry Boeh
Cost--$24/whole series, or $8/class ($5/students)
